On August 21, 2000, Daniel Jacob Radcliffe, Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, and Rupert Alexander Lloyd Grint came together to forever claim their roles as J.K. Rowling's Harry James Potter, Hermione Jane Granger, and Ronald Bilius Weasley.

Harry James Potter

Known As: Harry.
Date of Birth: 31st July, 1980.
Age at the End of the Second War: 17.
Name meaning: JKR says "I got the name Potter from people who lived down the road from me in Winterbourne. [...] I liked the surname so I took it." (ITV) JKR also notes on her Website that someone named Harry Potter was a 19th century clockmaker (WEB LINKJKR).
Middle name: James, after his father.

House: Gryffindor.

Distinguishing Characteristics: Most famously, a scar shaped like a bolt of lightning on his forehead, caused by Voldemort's attempt to kill him with the Avada Kedavra curse . Harry looks just like his father, James, except for his green eyes which he gets from his mother, Lily. Harry has round glasses, and until the defeat of Voldemort [Bloomsbury Chat], could speak Parseltongue (snake language), which is a very rare ability.

Heritage: Half-Blood.

FAMILY & FRIENDS
Mother: Lily (Evans) Potter; killed 31 Oct 1981 by Lord Voldemort at Godric’s Hollow.
Father: James Potter; killed 31 Oct 1981 by Lord Voldemort at Godric’s Hollow.
Aunts, Uncles: Petunia Dursley, Vernon Dursley.
Cousins: Dudley Dursley.
Childhood: Raised by the Dursleys, his mother’s Muggle sister Petunia and her husband Vernon.
Location of childhood home: four Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey.
Spouse: Ginevra "Ginny" Weasley.
Children: James Sirius, Albus Severus, Lily Luna, and godfather to Remus's son, Teddy Lupin.
Godfather: Sirius Black; he does not have a godmother.
Pet: Hedwig the owl, killed in the Battle of Seven Potters in July 1997. He also owns Buckbeak (renamed 'Witherwings'), but the Hippogriff is cared for by Hagrid.
House-elf: Kreacher, who was inherited from Sirius Black.

Harry is played by Daniel Radcliffe.

Radcliffe on Harry in Order of the Phoenix: I was fortunate enough to get to spend about an hour with [Potter author] JK Rowling on this film, and she said, “If people say, ‘I don’t like how angry Harry is in this book,’ then they haven’t been reading close enough.” If you look at what Harry’s been through, most people would be far more angry than Harry is, and far more outraged at the state of the world. Harry’s actually fairly well balanced, for everything that’s happened to him. It’s not petulance.

Hermione Granger

Birth name: Hermione Jean Granger.
First name: JKR chose the name Hermione from a character in Shakespeare's play "A Winter's Tale;" although she says that the characters are not at all similar. She thought it made sense for a couple of professional dentists to name their only daughter something like that to show how clever they were. But she chose a very unusual name because she worried that, if there were a real child somewhere who was bright and had larger-than-usual front teeth that had the same name, she might get teased (NPC). Hermione was also the name of two British character actresses who played witches. Hermione Baddely played Elspeth in the "Bewitched" TV series and was in Mary Poppins, and Hermione Gingold was in the movie "Bell Book and Candle." JKR has fun throughout the series with people mangling the pronunciation of Hermione’s name.
Middle name: In 2004, Jo told us her middle name was 'Jane'; however Rowling changed it to 'Jean" in Book 7, possibly so that Hermione and Umbridge wouldn't share the same middle name. 'Jean' is also one of the middle names of Rowling's daughter Mackenzie.
Last name: Grange=A grange is a barn or a farm with buildings to store grain, so ‘Granger’ is an occupational name for a farm bailiff.

Birthdate: 19 Sept 1979
Ancestry: Muggle-born.
Mother: Unnamed Muggle (dentist).
Father: Unnamed Muggle (dentist).
Siblings: At one time in the writing process, Hermione had a younger sister; however, Rowling decided not to include that character, so Hermione is an only child.
Spouse: Ron Weasley.
Children: Rose (born c. 2006) and Hugo (DH/e), and godmother to Harry's son James Sirius Potter.
Pet: Crookshanks (cat/kneazle hybrid).

Hermione is played by Emma Watson.

When asked who she thinks Hermione as a character has inspired, Emma generalized and reminded us of some of Hermione's more significant qualities. 'She bosses the guys around' and makes having a 'brain not beauty cool.' Although 'slightly socially inept' Hermione is 'not ashamed of herself.' Emma says that the saddest thing for a girl to do is to dumb herself down for a guy. Hermione wouldn't do it, so neither should anyone else.

Ronald "Ron" Weasley

Birthdate: 1 March 1980.
Ancestry: Pure-blood.
Mother: Molly (Prewett) Weasley.
Father: Arthur Weasley.
Maternal grandparents: Molly and Sirius are "cousins by marriage," so Molly's parents are probably related in some way to the Prewetts listed on the Black Family Tree (see BFT and my notes).
Paternal grandparents: Septimus and Cedrella Weasley.
Cousins: Mafalda, a cousin who never made it into the books and her father the Muggle accountant.
Siblings: Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, and Ginny.
Location of childhood home: 'The Burrow,' near Ottery St. Catchpole, Devon.
Spouse: Hermione Granger. Given the ages of their children, the marriage took place at some point between 1998 and 2005.
Children: Rose (b. circa 2006) and Hugo, and godfather to Harry's son James Sirius Potter.
Pet: Initially Scabbers the rat (until 1994), then Pigwidgeon ('Pig'), a small gray owl (GF5).

Ron is played by Rupert Grint
